We offer two types of underwater cutting services; cold cutting with hydraulic tools and underwater ultrathermic burning more commonly known by the brand name of the company who make the equipment: Broco.
Underwater burning is more of a black art than a skill. It requires a highly qualified and experienced diver make clean and efficient “cuts” with specialist high temperature burning gear. Underwater burning is commonly mistaken for welding when it is observed by those who have little exposure to the diving industry. A good way of describing it is welding but in reverse – pressurised O2 is passed through hollow rods which are struck and ignited by an electrical current and once lit, they burn with an intense heat. The temperature of the rod is sufficient to burn freely under the water and cut through metal and even concrete providing it is constantly fed with O2. How can underwater cutting benefit your project? One of the most common burning jobs that we undertake is the cutting and burning off of water facing sheet piles that have been driven into the ground to support the surrounding earth. Sheet piles and rebar are often used to hold earth from slipping into a waterway, whether that’s the sides of a river bank or to support the footings of a newly developed riverside apartment building. Our divers can burn perfectly in zero visibility waters purely by feel, this means we can save you not only time on your project but also money on consumables.
We are the right people for your underwater cutting project. Please contact us to find out more.
