Offshore survey and diver target investigation
Bramley Moore Dock – Liverpool

Dagger Diving Services (DDS) Air Diving Capability successfully conducted a Target Investigation (TI) to verify Potential Unexploded Ordnance (PUXO) that were identified during the geographical survey.

PROJECT SCOPE: INSHORE AIR DIVING AND PUXO OPERATIONS.
LOCATION: BRAMELY MOORE DOCK, LIVERPOOL
START DATE: JULY 2021
END DATE: SEP 21

MISSION

Laing O’Rouke commissioned Brimstone Site Investigation Ltd to provide an offshore marine survey and follow up Diver Target Investigation Ltd to provide an offshore marine survey and follow up Diver Target Investigation (TI) conducted by Dagger Diving Services Ltd in preparation to the construction of the new Everton football stadium.

Located at the 150-Year0old Bramley Moore Dock, DDS had to navigate through some very heavily ferrous and non-ferrous contaminated areas on the dock bed to identify potential targets highlighted on the geographical survey. Divers had to remove large amounts of metallic debris to access the readings on the survey including the use of airlifting to expose the deeper PUXO signatures recorded on the survey.

SOLUTION

DDS commissioned two barges to work independently of each other with a day and night shift working to achieve the clients timeline. All specialist UXO divers were fitted with a sonar tracking system allowing diver positioning accuracy to be within +/- 1M of the potential target. Additional measures were applied such as, the ability to reacquire the magnetic PUXO targets using a hand-held magnetometer. The capability to work in low visibility conditions employing an acoustic camera (or similar), for PUXO verification, discrimination, and identification purposes. Finally, de-burial operations utilising air lifts for busied PUXO targets.

RESULT

The docks were cleared to ALARP allowing the client to continue with the construction by driving piles into the dock bed to support the new football stadium.
